Retroduell is free to play and needs no sign-up. These rules say what applies when you play and when you build your own content — kept short, because there is little to regulate.

These rules apply to the use of retroduell.com and all games offered there. The provider is the operator named in the Legal Notice. What happens to your data is described in the Privacy Policy.
Opening the page is enough to play; a device account is created automatically, without an e-mail address and without a password. You choose your display name yourself.
It is visible to others — in duels, leaderboards and leagues. Therefore: no names that violate the rights of others (such as third-party trademarks or the names of real people used in an injurious way), no insulting, hateful or age-inappropriate names, and no advertising. A name that breaks these rules may be changed or blocked.
Seven of the games let you build your own content: levels, maps, tracks, arenas, characters, clans and melodies. Everything you build is private at first and visible only to you.
You share each piece of content individually. Levels, maps and tracks only after you have completed them yourself once; characters, objects and melodies go straight from the workshop into the gallery. Once shared, the content becomes visible and playable for other players; you can withdraw the release at any time.
By sharing, you grant the operator the non-exclusive, royalty-free and territorially unlimited right to store the content within Retroduell, to display it, to offer it to others for play and to show it in preview images. In addition, other players may copy a shared level into their own workspace, modify it there and share the modified version in turn; the copy names you in its title (“… (after …)”). The right ends when you withdraw the release or delete the content — with two limitations: backups are overwritten only after 60 days at the latest, and copies other players have made by then remain with them.
The copyright stays with you. There is no transfer to third parties outside the service, and no commercial exploitation of your content beyond running the games is intended.
Every shared piece of content carries a report function. Reported content is reviewed; where there is a violation, it is hidden or deleted. Hidden content cannot be made visible again by its creator. In case of repeated or serious violations, the account may be blocked.
Leaderboards, leagues and the daily duel depend on times being genuine. The following are therefore not permitted: modifying the game or its data transmission, automated clients, exploiting bugs to obtain records, and creating multiple accounts to influence results. Suspicious entries may be removed without notice.
Retroduell is a free service run privately. There is no entitlement to permanent availability, to the preservation of individual saved games or to the continued existence of the service. Maintenance, rebuilds and outages are possible; announced interruptions are signposted where possible.
The operator is liable without limitation in cases of intent and gross negligence and under the German Product Liability Act. In case of a breach of essential contractual obligations, liability is limited to the foreseeable damage typical for this kind of contract. Any further liability is excluded. The creator is responsible for content that users create and share.
These rules may change when the service changes or the law requires it. The current version is published on this page; the date above states its status.
